My Pregnancy Diet: Hearty Home-Cooked Meals

June 22, 2018

< back to blog home

Home-cooked meals have been part of my life since I have memory. As you know I am a Latina and my family loves to eat at home most of the time. Eating at home has so many great benefits as we are getting the best nutrients for our bodies and we get fewer stomach related issues. That is why I wanted to give my baby the best meals that would nourish him/her. However, I knew that making home-cooked meals takes a lot of time and effort, so that was one of my main concerns when I got pregnant.

My husband played an important role in my pregnancy diet. I believe that I would not have it done without his tremendous help. He did not want to waste time cutting the veggies manually so we bought a Kitchen Aid Mixer. We also bought some of the different accessories to cut and slice veggies and meat. Guys! this product has been a lifesaver! It eases and speeds the cooking process. Now, I know some of you might be asking if I consume fast food. The answer is yes! But I have a fast food schedule. This seems like crazy right? Obviously, it is, but as I mentioned before I want to get the right nutrients for my baby. Therefore, I hold on my pizza, hamburger, gyro, french fries and so on cravings for a month or maybe every two weeks. Believe me, this is really hard to do! But, hey! I do not even consume OJ (orange juice), yes, (the one that you get at the supermarket or convenience stores). Okay, okay, I won’t lie to you, sometimes I buy some if I’m on the road, but I get that feeling of guilt. Yeah, I know I sound like a paranoid pregnant woman, but please bear with me it’s my first child. Anywho, I wanted to create this blog post so I could share with you what I cook/eat in a day.

Breakfast #1
Breakfast # 2
  • 1 egg* sandwich: Omelet style egg with onions, bell peppers, mozzarella cheese and wheat bread. I accompanied that meal with 1 home-made orange juice or lemon juice: I love navel oranges for my daily dose of vitamin C.
Lunch
  • Rice, avocado, protein (beef, chicken* or fish) with veggies and a glass of home-made strawberry juice.
Snack #1
  • 1 Nutella and banana crepe or 1 banana milkshake.
Dinner
  • Mashed beans, rice, fried sweet plantains, and avocado. I drink home-made lemon/orange juice.
Snack #2
  • Home-made oatmeal milkshake or one strawberry milkshake

And of course, I don’t forget to drink the necessary amount of water in a day!

*I know that I have a blog post where it says that I do not eat chicken and/or eggs. You can read it here. I’ve been eating chicken and eggs during my pregnancy because I want my baby to get the best nutrients and proteins needed for his/her development. So, true love here!

Well, that is what I’ll usually eat in a day. Sometimes I get other food cravings that I’ll replace my usual eating habits for. These could be some of my cravings:
